ISMI Offers Global Economic Symposium to International Participants in May
Austin, TX (14 April 2004) - The International SEMATECH Manufacturing Initiative (ISMI) will sponsor its Spring, 2004 Global Economic Symposium (GES) on May 26 at the Sheraton National Hotel in Arlington, VA. This biannual, open meeting is geared to international participation from IC and equipment manufacturers, materials suppliers, and government agencies affiliated with the semiconductor industry.
Keynote speaker Jim Feldhan, founder of Semico Research Corporation, will provide an industry outlook focusing on manufacturing issues and trends at the meeting. The symposium's objective is to attain greater understanding of the real and potential impact of collaboration in industry productivity trends.
Additional speakers and their topics will include:
- Ellen McDevitt, MEMS Industry Group, focusing on where ICs and MEMS (microelectrical mechanical systems) converge
- Dan Tracy, SEMI, on semiconductor industry early indicators
- Iddo Hadar, Applied Materials, on partnering for productivity
- Mark McClear, Dow Chemical Corp., on the Global Industry Alliance
- Alan Allan, Intel Corp., speaking about roadmapping the future
- Walt Trybula, International SEMATECH, on evaluating lithography economics
- Denis Fandel, ISMI, on strategic productivity paths
- Other speakers on nanotechnology are also planned
As with previous GES sessions, many of the presentations will be based on applications of the Industry Economic Model (IEM), a sophisticated software tool that can analyze various aspects of semiconductor economics in terms of capacity, supplier markets, and productivity as influenced by technology assumptions, product demand trends, and business dynamics.
Industry professionals who are interested in attending the symposium should contact Denis Fandel at 512-356-3461 or e-mail iem@sematech.org. Reporters and editors wishing to cover the meeting are asked to contact Dan McGowan at 512-356-3440 or media.relations@sematech.org.
