Registration Opens for ISMI Manufacturing Week Scheduled for October 20-23

Leading industry speakers, informative sessions and keynote speaker from Toshiba to highlight event agenda
   

Austin, TX (June 2, 2008) – International SEMATECH Manufacturing Initiative (ISMI) organizers announced today that visitor registration is open for ISMI’s Manufacturing Week.  The week-long event which will feature the 5th Annual ISMI Symposium on Manufacturing Effectiveness will be held October 20-23, 2008 at the Hilton Austin Airport in Austin, Texas.

Themed “Productivity Challenges”, the event will showcase an impressive list of speakers including keynote speaker Masakazu Kakumu, vice president of system LSI division, Semiconductor Company of the Toshiba Corporation.  Kakumu will deliver the Symposium’s keynote address on October 22 at 8:15 a.m. at the Hilton Austin Airport. 

Other prominent speakers at the Symposium will include world-renowned industry expert Dan Hutcheson, CEO of VLSI Research.  Hutcheson will lead a distinguished panel of high-profile executives including:

  • Brett Hodess, deputy director of US equity research and co-leader of the technology sector for Merrill Lynch
  • Mike Cadigan, general manager, Semiconductor Solutions, Global Engineering Solutions of IBM
  • Harvey Frye, president, Tokyo Electron America (TEA)
  • Kenneth Flamm, professor and Dean Rusk chair in International Affairs at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at UT-Austin. 

The panel will address hot-button issues and the current and future state of semiconductor manufacturing in G7 countries.

“Our goal is to maximize the value for participants by facilitating solutions that come from close interaction among industry leaders.  For this year’s event we have put together an excellent line up of keynote and plenary panel speakers, all of whom are experts in their field,” said Mike Schwartz, Symposium Chair. “The speakers, coupled with the week-long workshops and sessions, represent a collaborative forum focusing on volume productivity issues in the semiconductor industry.” 

ISMI’s Manufacturing Week will showcase four days of technical courses and workshops, supplier exhibits, technical posters and networking events for equipment and software suppliers, chipmakers and other semiconductor manufacturing high-tech professionals.  During the first two days of the event, there will be a wide range of short courses and workshops, as well as networking receptions. On October 22-23, the Symposium will feature keynote speeches and parallel technical sessions focusing on industry-specific manufacturing methodologies for increasing productivity and reducing manufacturing expenses.

The success of the 4th ISMI Symposium on Manufacturing Effectiveness in 2007 paved the way for this year’s expanded Forum. More than 420 technologists and marketing professionals attended, with a record number of 52 exhibitors along with 13 sponsors.
