Abstract:  This document is a "call to action" for SEMATECH member companies to examine
and improve the performance of software in semiconductor equipment and
factories. It probes the causes and costs of software failures and provides
responses and guidelines for addressing them, with the aim of producing high-
quality software. The document further outlines a joint strategy for member
companies to minimize factory downtime due to software problems. It also
includes appendixes, directed at manufacturers and suppliers, of software
improvement activities.
