Abstract:  This paper was developed for use at International SEMATECH Manufacturing Initiative (ISMI) member companies. We have observed auditors using the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) Measurement Systems Analysis Reference Manual (MSA) as a standard, despite the statement in the foreword of the AIAG MSA that it is not a standard and the statement on page 143 acknowledging that special cases that may occur will require new techniques to be used. This paper sets forth improvements to the AIAG MSA methodology that are used at ISMI member companies and can be considered best practices.
